How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs - Bed Bug Pest Control Guide

The battle with bed bugs is psycological as much as it is physical. The feeling of knowing beg bugs are lurking where you sleep and ready to bite when you are in your deepest sleep of the night can be chilling. Because of this fear I have found that many people misdiagnose flea bites or other bites for beg bug bites. In fact, all reported cases of bed bugs I have received are from tenants that never actually had bed bug infestations.

If you want to learn how to get rid of bed bugs you must first identify them. There are two ways to identify them. One way is by the bites and the other is by actually finding them.

Bed bug bites are similar to masquito bites. They are a pinkish red color and can be raised or flat. The easiest way to identify bed bug bites is by their pattern. Beg bug bites are often in a line or in a group.

Beg bugs themselves often hide on a mattress itself or within close proximity to the mattress. Carefully lift the lips of a mattress and look for residue or beg bugs themselves. As beg bugs age they shed their carasses and leave them behind. Their droppings are also often found where they reside.

How To Get Rid Of Bed Beds After They Are Identified

Once you understand how the insects live and what they are and are not capable of you will be able to kill bed bugs. The blood suckers don't have wings and cannot jump. They need a walking path to their victim. Due to their physical limitations, if you can keep them from getting into your bed and be sure any that are found on your bed are removed you will keep them at bay until they can be killed.

Treating Your Bed And Mattress For Bed Bugs

If you notice bed bugs or their residue on your mattress it is best to get a new mattress if you can afford it. If money is tight you can purchase a mattress cover that is made to trap the insects. Before installing a mattress cover throughly vacuum and clean your mattress. Also be sure to vacuum and clean your box spring and bed frame. Attention to detail is very important, especially on the box spring and bed frame because they will not be covered. If your box spring material has a rip in it you should sew or patch it as bed bugs could be hiding out inside of it.

Once the bed has been treated it is important to make sure bed bugs cannont climb onto it. Take the following steps:
  • Be sure the bed is pulled away from any wall it is touching
  • Be mindful of where the sheets are, the sheets cannot touch the floor or walls
  • Make sure nothing that is touching the floor is touching the bed. This includes other furniture in the room.
  • If any decrative decor or lighing is hanging from the ceiling make sure it does not touch the bed or bed frame.
Now that the bed bug's only path to the bed is the legs of the bed it is time to make sure that the proper defenses are awaiting any unsuspecting bug that tries to make it to you. Killing bed bugs can accomplished by placing a tray under all legs of your bed and filling the trays with Diatomaceous Earth. Diatomaceous Earth is harmless to humans and pets but deadly to small insects. The fine powder cuts the insects and also dries them out. Walking through Diatomaceous Earth to a bed bug would be similar to us trying to walk through a pool of broken glass.

Once your bed is throughly protected spread the Diatomaceous Earth around all corners of your room. Since bed bugs can live for months without eating be sure to keep up with the Diatomaceous Earth for a good 6 months. If you notice no bites for six months it is safe to say you've mastered how to get rid of beg bugs in your house.
